I continue to draw using traditional media though increasingly I am working on the computer. In high school, I focused on technical drawing, and mechanical drawing on paper. As a child, I had always loved to draw. In art school, I was especially interested in the human form. This led me to work in medical illustration. At the same time, computers were emerging and I started to use them in my work. It was crude at first. Computers were toys by today's standards and output was a dot matrix printer. But, I understood the implications. This led to new work in video and multimedia. I found real experience in video by volunteering at the local public access cable station as camera operator, sound engineer, and gained experience toward becoming a producer. I worked on a Social Justice series in the mid 90's where we would record political activists in an weekly interview series. But, video moved from tape to the computer and I moved with it.

I found work as a graphic designer, at one point developing a kiosk system using some of the first Amiga color computers (256 colors). It was rough going as the company was a technology startup and paid poor wages. So, I went back to school and studied Art at the University of Iowa. There I studied Intermedia and Video Art and met some great artists (via visiting artists and video from New York City artists as well as creative students in the same program). I also worked at Project Art and learned about currating and installing Art and organizing a show. I almost became a graphic designer. I had the computer skills at an early stage in my career. But I went into graduate school instead.

I found the instructional design and technology field in graduate school, and this led to work in media development and instructional design work right up to the present. I've been a programmer as well. Since about 1996, I have worked in the digital realm with my art and photography. I am happy to show my work on the Internet. For me access is more important than venue. In the past, I have produced traditional shows and worked to install shows in museum sites. So I know the routine. Curating a show is an art form. But with the Internet there is so much traffic that can come to see your work online that it is a hard media to ignor.

My take on technology is that people do great things with technology. The tools to create digital art are now available to the masses. What took days to make is now just a click of a button. Will talent emerge or will it be drowned out by the noise?

All profits from my business go to charity. My favorite charity is ASPCA. What does this mean? It means that after expenses and salary I donate the remainder to charity. Sometimes, I just work for charity especially if the business is a non-profit.

Do you have an event that you want video and audio coverage and made ready for the web? Do you need media transfered from an old media format? Do you have a special pet you want photographed? Are you in the Iowa City area and starting or running a small business and want advice on small business computer operations or maybe a web site for your business? Need a logo for your business?

For a quick quote on a project, just send me an email with the details of your project (what you need and by when).
